Central America and Carribean Youth Chess Championship 2009

From August 6 till August 11, 2009 the Central America and Carribean Youth Championship is taking place in Panama.

The treasurer of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation George Perez-Borrero let us know that:

" The Puerto Rico Chess Federation will be sending a delegation of nine young chess players to the IV Central American and Caribbean Youth Chess Festival to be held at Panamá City, Panamá from August 6 to 15, 2009. The delegation will be lead by the Puerto Rico Chess Federation President., Omar Añeses-Bocanegra and among the representation there will be two chess trainers FM Luis Sosa-Trani and Abnel Ayala-Sanchez.

Among the delegation the last year Pan American Youth silver medalist Danitza Vazquez-Maccarini will be participating in the 10 year old girls section. Danitza Vazquez-Maccarini with only nine years old came out in second place in this year’s Puerto Rico Woman Chess Championship with a rating performance of 1873.

Puerto Rico Women's Championship, FINAL RESULTS

The treasurer of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation George Perez-Borrero let us know that:

"The Puerto Rico Woman Chess Championship ended yesterday July 27, 2009
Tammy Segarra Choe revalidates as Puerto Rico Woman Chess Champion without losing a single game with 9 points out of 10. In second place and with only nine (9) years old Danitza Vazquez Maccarini (on the photo above with me in Nashville, april 2009) ended with 7 points after her victory in the last round over the WFM Jo Ann Alvarez Orta. Danitza ended with a rating performance of 1873."

Puerto Rico Women Championship - Final

The treasurer of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation, George Perez-Borrero let me know today that: "The Final of the Puerto Rico Woman Championship, Puerto Rico National Women Championship -2009 is being held at the Casa de Ajedrez

in Caguas Puerto Rico from July 11, 2009 to July 27 2009. The institution of 9,753 square feet is the only installation dedicated exclusively to chess in Puerto Rico. The house was built at a cost of $1,6 million. Casa del Ajedrez "the House of Chess" opened its doors in October of 2006 under the direction of IA Rafael Ortiz Bonilla with the purpose of promoting the education and practice of the sport science."

After eight rounds the Chess Champion of Puerto Rico en titre - Seqarra Choe Tammy is leading with 7.5 points, the 9 years old Danitza Vazquez is in second place with 5 points. Mr. George Perez-Borrero, the treasurer of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation, let me know today that the Open Woman Classificatory of Puerto Rico finished and the following roster will be playing in the Final Championship:

The Puerto Rico Women's Championship will be held at la Casa del Ajedrez the 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26 y 27 of July 2009 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

La Casa del Ajedrez is an institution of 9.753 square feet is the only installation dedicated exclusively to the chess in Puerto Rico and is one of the biggest installation for such purposes in the world. La Casa del Ajedrez opened its doors in October of 2006 under the direction of the IA Rafael Ortiz Bonilla, who administers these facilities by means of the Foundation that takes its name and which organizes diverse activities towards the aim to promote the education and practice of the sport.

Puerto Rico Chess Federation Woman Open Classificatory

Today I received a very nice email from the Treasurer of the Puerto Rico Chess Federation:

"Hi Alexandra:

From May 29 till May 31 the Puerto Rico Chess Federation Woman Open Classificatory will take place. It's a Swiss system where 5 players will be selected for the final Round Robin Championship.

The 2008 Pan-American silver medalist Danitza Vazquez Macarrini

will be participating as well as the WFM Jo Ann Álvarez Orta

The Puerto Rico Federation is following closely with great enthusiasms the development of its young woman chess players. The Puerto Rico Chess Federation and other chess groups are undertaking initiatives to increase the number of women chess players. One is to increase the number of female players in the public spotlight so that they serve as role models and spokespeople. These efforts are already producing results. At annual chess tournaments, the number of girls participating is increasing every year.
