Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012
Hi everyone,
This is a great double for Russia as Alexander Grischuk becomes the World Blitz Chess Champion 2012 today in Astana, Kazakhstan. He played some solid chess by taking a one point lead on the first day of play and keeping the tempo by finally winning today – half a point ahead of World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen. Carlsen went in for an inspired performance by winning all his eight last games today, but it was still half-a-point shy of Grischuk’s early lead. World Rapid Chess Champion Sergey Karjakin was right behind the duo at third place. Carlsen is runners-up in both the World Blitz and World Rapid now.
