Hello everyone,

Magnus Carlsen has won the Sixth Tal Chess Memorial in his trademark style – a final burst of predator chess. The players had gone into the ninth round with Levon Aronian as sole leader after beating Peter Svidler in the eighth round. In the ninth round played today, Carlsen beat Hikaru Nakamura and caught up with Aronian who held on to a draw against Nepomniachtchi. Both had 5.5 points but Carlsen wins on tiebreak score!

  • Sergey Karjakin Vassily Ivanchuk ½-½
  • Peter Svidler Vladimir Kramnik 1-0
  • Ian Nepomniachtchi Levon Aronian ½-½
The final standings saw Aronian and Carlsen both at 5.5 points, Karjakin, Nepomniachtchi and Ivanchuk at 5.0, Anand and Svidler at 4.5 each, Kramnik and Gelfand at 3.5 each and Nakamura at 3.0.

For statistics sake, the sixth Tal Chess Memorial was a 10-player round robin event that ran from November 16-25 in Moscow, Russia. The time control was 100 minutes for the first 40 moves and 50 minutes for the next 20 moves and 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move.
